Army distributes solar lamps to students in Tuting

TUTING, Aug 1: As part of its ongoing civic outreach programme in the remote border region of Upper Siang district, the Indian Army’s Spearhead Division under Spear Corps distributed 90 solar lamps to students across Tuting to support their education and improve access to lighting for evening studies.

The lamps were distributed to students of Siang Valley Residential English Medium School, Kindergarten Primary School, NSCB School, KGBV, Kendriya Vidyalaya Tuting, Government Primary School Pekong, Govt Town Secondary School Tuting, Higher Secondary School Tuting, Government Primary School Ningguing, Government Primary School Kugging and Government Primary School Norbulling.

The initiative was carried out by Indian Army personnel deployed in the forward areas in coordination with local school authorities. It aims to address the persistent challenge of erratic and inadequate electricity supply in the region, which often limits students' study hours after sunset.

The solar lamps are expected to enable uninterrupted evening studies, improve learning outcomes and reduce dependence on unreliable power supply, providing practical support to students in one of the country's most remote border areas.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of border communities, the Indian Army said it continues to complement its security role through initiatives focused on education, healthcare and community development. Such outreach programmes, it said, strengthen national integration while contributing to the socio-economic development of frontier regions.

School authorities and students expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing the solar lamps as a timely intervention that would significantly benefit students in their daily studies despite infrastructure challenges.

The Army also reiterated its commitment to continue similar welfare initiatives across Tuting sub-division, working closely with local communities to promote education and development in the border region.
