Itanagar, Aug 2: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has restored vital road connectivity to Huri in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district by constructing and launching a 200-foot Bailey Bridge, replacing the bridge that was washed away in flash floods on the night of July 11.
The collapse of the earlier bridge had completely cut off Huri, disrupting the movement of residents, essential commodities and emergency services.
The restoration was undertaken on a mission mode by Project Arunank, with personnel of 85 RCC/756 BRTF working under extremely challenging conditions. Continuous heavy rainfall, strong river currents, unstable soil, and repeated landslides posed major obstacles to foundation work and the preparation of approach roads.
Despite the difficult terrain, remote location and limited resources, BRO teams worked relentlessly to complete the project within a short period, ensuring the restoration of this critical lifeline.
Besides launching the Bailey bridge, BRO personnel also cleared mudslides, repaired damaged road stretches and improved access routes to facilitate the movement of men, machinery and construction materials.
Officials said the successful operation reflected the organisation’s technical expertise, meticulous planning and coordinated execution in overcoming adverse weather and logistical challenges.
The restoration has brought much-needed relief to residents of Huri, who had remained cut off since the flash floods. Local people have expressed gratitude to the BRO, stating that the restored connectivity would ensure uninterrupted access to essential supplies, healthcare, and other basic services while easing daily transportation and economic activities.
