Biri Takar’s double medal win draws praise from CM, Dy CM

Itanagar, Aug 3: Arunachal Pradesh’s para badminton star Biri Takar has earned accolades from Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein after clinching a gold medal and a bronze medal at the Brazil Para Badminton International 2026.

Takar won the gold medal in the men's doubles event and followed it up with a bronze medal in the men's singles SL4 category, bringing international recognition to both the state and the country.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu hailed the achievement as another milestone for Arunachal Pradesh’s sporting community and said it underscored the impact of the Chief Minister's Award to Champion Excellence in Sports (CM ACES) initiative.

He said the programme was successfully identifying and nurturing talented athletes, enabling them to compete and excel on the global stage. "The CM ACES programme is producing champions who are bringing laurels to Arunachal Pradesh and India," Khandu said.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also congratulated Takar, describing his double medal haul as an exceptional accomplishment born out of dedication, perseverance and hard work.

Stating that the victory had filled every Arunachali with pride, Mein said Takar’s success would inspire aspiring sportspersons across the state to pursue excellence in international competitions.

The two leaders wished the para shuttler many more successes in the future and expressed confidence that he would continue to make the nation proud with his performances.
