ITANAGAR, Aug 4: A Kisan Sanghosti on “Siangmi Mithun Breed Conservation & Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Prevention” was successfully organized at Mopung village under Rumgong circle in Siang district, bringing together Mithun farmers, scientists, veterinary experts and officials to promote scientific Mithun husbandry and FMD prevention.
The programme commenced with the singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the welcome address and overview of challenges faced by Mithun farmers.
The inaugural address was delivered virtually by Dr Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR–NRC on Mithun), Medziphema, who highlighted conservation of the Siangmi Mithun breed, scientific management and institutional collaboration.
The technical sessions included Dr B H M Patel, Principal Scientist, ICAR–IVRI, Bengaluru (Virtual): Inbreeding Depression in Mithun; Dr Vijay Paul, Principal Scientist, ICAR–NRC on Yak, Dirang (Virtual): Important Diseases in Mithun and Their Control; Dr Rahul Singh Arya, Senior Scientist, ICAR–NIFMD, Bhubaneswar (Virtual): FMD and Importance of Vaccination; Dr Yika Angu, District Veterinary Officer Siang: Government Initiatives in Animal Husbandry; Tadang Tamut, Chairman JMMFF & Farmers’ Coordinator, ICAR–NRC on Mithun: Scientific Mithun Production; Tatok Panor, president Siang Mithun Farmers (SMF): Siang Mithun Farmers’ Activities; Matpi Tabing, secretary SMF: Conservation of Mithun & Wild Dog Menace.
