ZIRO, Aug 4: Agriculture officials from across central Arunachal Pradesh gathered at the Golden Jubilee conference hall here today for a hands-on orientation on the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES)—a nationwide effort to modernise crop yield reporting using smart technology.
Coordinated by Lower Subansiri District Agriculture Officer Tasso Butung, the one-day workshop brought together 40 field officers, including Senior District Agriculture Officers (SDAOs), Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs), Block and Assistant Technology Managers (BTMs/ATMs), Marketing Inspectors, and Field Assistants. Representatives spanned five districts: Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Kra-Daadi, and the newly created Keyi Panior district.
The main session was led by Ngurang Yakam, Assistant Statistical Inspector from the Directorate of Agriculture, Naharlagun.
Training focused on moving away from traditional, paper-heavy yield estimates toward the DGCES mobile app and web portal. Designed to streamline Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs), the new digital framework uses automated plot selection and geotagged, GPS-enabled photography to ensure accurate, tamper-proof field reporting.
To complement the classroom instruction, participants headed to Mudang Tage village later in the day for a practical field demonstration, mapping out plots and testing the app's real-time data entry tools on-site. (DIPRO)
