PASIGHAT, Aug 5: The Pasighat-based women-led NGO Ma:m Ke has emerged as a key grassroots force in East Siang district by mobilising community groups, youth organisations and volunteers in support of the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat' campaign under the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
As part of the nationwide campaign under Viksit Bharat @2047, described by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "Jan Andolan", the organisation conducted a pledge drive in Pasighat, encouraging citizens to commit themselves to building a drug-free society.
Expanding the campaign beyond the pledge ceremony, Ma:m Ke reached out to civil society organisations across Arunachal Pradesh, urging them to participate in the anti-drug movement and join the online launch programme of 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat'.
Organisations that participated on August 2 included the Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society (Upper Siang), Wakro Women Welfare Society (Lohit), Buddhist Community of East Siang, Galo Welfare Society Women Wing (East Siang), All Bogong Students’ Union (ABSU), College of Horticulture and Forestry, Wancho Council (Longding), Recovering Warriors of Oyan, besides several youth volunteers and community members.
Roying village, recognised as East Siang's first drug-free village, also joined the online programme led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining a drug-free community.
Chairperson of Ma:m Ke, Jaya Tasung Moyong, said the organisation remains committed to strengthening grassroots participation in the fight against substance abuse.
"We joined the online launch programme, administered the Nasha Mukt pledge to volunteers and community members, and reached out to several organisations to encourage their participation. We believe a drug-free youth is the strongest pillar of a healthy family and a Viksit Bharat," she said.
A prominent women-led NGO based in Pasighat, Ma:m Ke works to protect youth from drug abuse, create awareness among mothers, and preserve the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Adi community.
The campaign seeks to inspire young people to reject substance abuse and become active contributors to a healthier and more progressive India. With increasing support from civil society organisations across Arunachal Pradesh, the initiative is expected to further strengthen community-led efforts towards creating drug-free villages and empowering youth as agents of positive social change.
