Itanagar, Aug 5: In a significant boost to ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts in the region, a cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango Konyak) faction voluntarily surrendered before the security forces at Khonsa in Tirap district on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.
The surrendered cadre was identified as self-styled lieutenant Hewan Boham (35), a resident of Olingtong village under Kanubari Police Station in Longding district.
The surrender took place at the Superintendent of Police’s office in Khonsa, in the presence of officials from Tirap Police, 44 Assam Rifles, and the 36 Battalion CRPF.
The surrendered cadre handed over one 7.65 mm pistol along with four live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition.
According to police, the surrender reflects the sustained efforts of the security forces to encourage underground cadres to shun violence and rejoin the mainstream. Officials said such initiatives are contributing to peace, stability and development in the region.
Tirap Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order while extending all possible support to those choosing the path of reconciliation and nation-building.
