ZIRO/YACHULI, Aug 7: The district administrations of Lower Subansiri and Keyi Panyor have intensified preparations for the Census 2027 by conducting training and orientation programmes for officials involved in the preparation of the District Census Handbook (DCHB), aimed at ensuring accurate and comprehensive data collection.
In Lower Subansiri, a hands-on training programme for field functionaries and Census Charge Officers was held on Friday at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hall of the District Secretariat in Ziro under the direction of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Oli Perme.
The day-long programme focused on equipping officials with practical knowledge to carry out accurate, efficient and hassle-free fieldwork during the census exercise.
Attending as the resource person, James L, Statistical Investigator-II, Directorate of Census Operations, Shillong, explained various aspects of DCHB fieldwork, including data collection procedures, accurate data entry and practical solutions to challenges likely to be encountered during field surveys.
Assistant Director of Economics and Statistics Chiging Tamu reviewed the progress of the district's census preparations and informed participants that technical issues related to the mobile application were being addressed, with technical support available whenever required. He urged officials to actively participate in the interactive training to gain a clear understanding of their responsibilities before undertaking field assignments.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to clarify operational and technical issues with the resource person and technical team.
Meanwhile, the Keyi Panyor district administration organised a training and orientation programme on Thursday at Yachuli for administrative officers, circle officers and field functionaries on the preparation of the District Census Handbook.
Participants were familiarised with the Instruction Manual for Village Directory issued by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Officials highlighted the importance of the District Census Handbook as a key reference document integrating Census data with village- and town-level information on civic infrastructure and public amenities, making it an essential resource for planners, administrators, researchers and policymakers.
The training covered the preparation of the Village and Town Directory, collection of non-census information on educational institutions, healthcare facilities, drinking water sources, road connectivity, electricity, post offices and other civic amenities, besides the compilation of the Primary Census Abstract containing demographic indicators such as population, literacy, workforce participation and household amenities.
Officials also briefed participants on documenting district profiles, including administrative structure, historical background, physical geography and climatic conditions.
The Keyi Panyor administration stressed that accurate village- and ward-level data is vital for effective governance, infrastructure planning and evidence-based policymaking, while urging all departments and field officials to maintain high standards of data accuracy and ensure timely coordination for the successful preparation of the District Census Handbook and the conduct of Census 2027.
