ITANAGAR, Aug 7: Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister Nyato Dukam exhorted media organizations to uphold factual, unbiased, and responsible reporting amid the challenges posed by the rapid growth of digital communication.
Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘India Unboxed’ newspaper cum Digital office at Daria Hill near here today, Dukam said that while the digital boom has transformed news consumption, it has also made the survival of print media increasingly challenging. Despite these changes, he stressed that journalism must remain rooted in ethics and credibility.
“The very basis of journalism is being ethical towards your responsibility,” the Minister said, adding that the media, as the fourth pillar of democracy, has a crucial role in promoting social progress and serving as a mirror to society.
Further, he reiterated the State government’s commitment to the welfare of the media fraternity in Arunachal Pradesh, assuring continued support for its growth and development.
Commissioner IPR Nyali Ete also called for ethical reporting, discouraging sensationalism in headlines and urging journalists to maintain professional standards.
“News should be actionable in shaping informed public opinion and bringing about positive change. Journalists should report both the positive works of the government as well as its shortcomings. The responsibility of forming opinions should rest with the readers,” he said.
He further urged media organizations to highlight success stories from across the State, particularly from remote and underserved areas, saying such stories deserve equal attention alongside mainstream developments.
Founder Ram Tajo spoke about the vision behind bringing out the newspaper.
Editor Sonam Jelly shared the editorial vision of the newspaper, while dignitaries including Director IPR Gijum Tali, Dy Director Printing & Stationery Heri Maring, East Kameng ZPC Pai Pizi Yangfo, and community leader Khya Safar Pao attended the inaugural function.
