YAZALI, Aug 9: Nearly three decades after leaving the classrooms of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Yazali, members of the institution’s 1994–96 alumni batch returned to their alma mater with a message of giving back, donating 200 chairs and interacting with students on academic and professional pursuits.
The alumni delegation was led by Likha Tejji, Deputy Commissioner of Pakke-Kessang and president of the 1994–96 alumni batch, along with Er Byabang Tugu and other former students.
The initiative followed a request from Principal of GHSS Yazali, Taba Nepa, who had sought assistance to address the school’s infrastructure requirements and improve the learning environment for students.
During their visit, the alumni interacted with students and shared experiences from their academic and professional journeys. They encouraged the students to remain focused on their education and pursue their aspirations with discipline, perseverance and self-belief.
They emphasised that sustained effort, education and determination are key to shaping a young person’s future, irrespective of social or economic background.
The visit also included a tree plantation programme on the school campus, undertaken by the alumni as part of their continued engagement with the institution in January this year.
Welcoming the former students, the Principal, members of the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC), and others expressed appreciation for the donation and the alumni’s continued association with the institution.
Speaking to the media, DC Likha Tejji said the 1994–96 batch would continue to extend support to the school from time to time, whenever assistance was required and within their capacity.
The initiative highlighted the important role alumni can play in strengthening educational institutions not only through infrastructure support but also through mentorship, experience-sharing and sustained community engagement.
The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on giving back to society and investing in the education and aspirations of the next generation.
