Itanagar, Aug 10: The Special Action Team (SAT) of Itanagar Capital Police has arrested two suspected drug peddlers and seized 163 grams of suspected heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs 20 lakh in the illicit market, during an operation at Chimpu here, police said on Monday.
The arrests were made during a late-night operation on Sunday following specific intelligence inputs, police said. The operation was led by DySP (HQ) Chamrak Arun under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Capital Itanagar, Jummar Basar.
A case has been registered at Chimpu Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway to establish the source of the suspected contraband and trace the wider supply network.
Capital Police reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and appealed to youth groups, community-based organisations, ward members, corporators and the general public to remain vigilant and share credible information regarding drug-related activities.
