Itanagar, Aug 11: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Itanagar unit, organised a Mega Tiranga Yatra here on Tuesday to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram and pay tribute to the freedom fighters who made sacrifices during India's freedom movement.
The yatra began from Clock Tower, Ganga and culminated at IG Park here, with enthusiastic participation of students, youths, ABVP activists and well-wishers.
Home Minister Mama Natung attended the programme as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Natung said Vande Mataram had been an enduring source of inspiration and patriotic spirit for generations of Indians and played an important role in inspiring the freedom movement.
The Home Minister said the Tiranga embodies the nation’s pride, the sacrifices of countless Indians and the aspirations that unite the country as one.
The spirited chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” during the yatra reflected the participants’ patriotism and commitment to the nation, he said.
Natung urged students and youths to carry forward the spirit behind Vande Mataram by contributing positively to nation-building and respecting the country's rich history and heritage.
Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Likha Nari Tadar attended the event as the guest of honour, while Director of Youth Affairs, Ramesh Linggi, was present as the special guest.
Morjum Loyi delivered the keynote address. ABVP Arunachal Pradesh vice-president Odol Pertin, state organising secretary Jeli Ete, special invitees, students, activists and well-wishers also participated in the Tiranga Yatra.
The event highlighted the enduring legacy of Vande Mataram and sought to instil a sense of national pride and patriotism among the youth.
