ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The All Arunachal Contractors Welfare Association (AACWA) has urged the state government to expedite construction of the proposed East-West Industrial Corridor (EWIC) highway in Arunachal Pradesh, saying the project would help end the state’s dependence on road connectivity through Assam.
The association said the Centre has cited concerns over people’s willingness to part with land as one of the reasons for the delay in starting the project.
The AACWA, however, said public concerns could be addressed through awareness campaigns and village-wise Gram Sabha meetings in the districts likely to be affected by the proposed highway.
It appealed to the state government to convene a meeting of ministers and MLAs representing the affected constituencies and take steps to expedite the project.
