TAWANG, Aug 13: Patriotism and national pride came alive in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday as a vibrant Tiranga Bike and Cycle Yatra was organised from Chhamleng near Tawang Monastery to the historic Tawang War Memorial as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The yatra was jointly flagged off by Tawang Additional Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Leta, Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang; ZPM Kyidphel Tenzin Monpa and ZPM Tawang Sonam Nordzin.
Members of the Tawang Cycling Association, representatives of political parties, police personnel and the general public enthusiastically participated in the yatra, carrying the Tricolour through the mountain roads amid chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
At the Tawang War Memorial, the participants were received by the Deputy Commander and senior officers of the Tawang Brigade. The culmination of the yatra at the memorial added significance to the celebrations, reminding participants of the valour and supreme sacrifice of soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation.
Meanwhile, the patriotic celebrations extended across Tawang township, where residents participated in a Swachhata Abhiyaan ahead of Independence Day. People joined the cleanliness drive covering areas from Tawang Monastery to Changbu, including the three major markets and adjoining colonies.
Markets and public spaces were also decorated with Tiranga-themed lights, while the National Flag was displayed prominently at markets, homes, colonies and various establishments.
The celebrations brought together patriotism, civic responsibility and community participation, with the Tricolour serving as a symbol of unity and national pride.
The day’s activities reflected Tawang’s collective spirit of honouring the nation and its bravehearts while reaffirming the message of “One Nation, One Tricolour, One Spirit.”
