BOMDILA, Aug 13: Local MLA Dongru Siongju on Thursday inaugurated a newly established Endoscopy Unit at the Zonal General Hospital, Bomdila, aimed at strengthening diagnostic and treatment facilities for patients in West Kameng and the wider Kameng region.
The inauguration was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr Dilip Kumar, District Medical Officer Dr RD Thongchi and Medical Superintendent Dr Sapmo Yomcha, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Siongju appreciated the hospital team for establishing the facility and said the unit would significantly benefit patients who otherwise have to travel outside the district for specialised diagnostic services.
He stressed the need for government hospitals to provide quality treatment to patients and urged healthcare workers to discharge their duties with dedication and commitment. He also advised hospitals to avoid unnecessary referrals to neighbouring states so as to reduce inconvenience and financial burden on patients.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Dilip Kumar appreciated the doctors and medical staff of the hospital for their dedicated service despite various challenges. He assured the hospital authorities of all possible support from the district administration to strengthen healthcare services in the district.
Dr Habung Mobing (MD) explained the functions and clinical applications of endoscopy, highlighting its role in diagnosing and treating various gastrointestinal conditions. He said the facility could be used for cancer screening of the oesophagus, stomach and colon, evaluation of gastrointestinal bleeding and anaemia, diagnosis of peptic ulcer and inflammatory bowel diseases, biopsy of suspicious lesions and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Medical Superintendent Dr Sapmo Yomcha said the inauguration marked only the beginning and emphasised the need for smooth and effective functioning of the unit to ensure better healthcare services for the public. He sought the cooperation of all staff members in running the facility efficiently.
During the programme, the hospital authorities also apprised the MLA of key manpower and infrastructure requirements, including shortages of General Duty Medical Officers, the need for an additional anaesthetist and inadequate staff accommodation at Bomdila. (DIPRO)
