YINGKIONG, Aug 17: Three major development projects aimed at strengthening civic amenities, livelihood infrastructure and education were inaugurated at Yingkiong in Upper Siang district on Monday.
The projects—a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), a Vendor Market and the Academic Building of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Yingkiong—were inaugurated by Tuting-Yingkiong MLA and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Alo Libang, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang.
The inauguration programmes were attended by ZPM Api Kombo, BJP Upper Siang district president Ojing Peyang, heads of departments, public leaders, officials, students, local representatives and members of the public. The programmes were coordinated by the Department of Urban Affairs, Yingkiong Division, under the supervision of Executive Engineer Ramu Welly.
The MRF, located near the Airfield and burial ground, has been developed under the Swachh Bharat Mission to strengthen scientific solid waste management in Yingkiong. The facility will facilitate systematic segregation and recovery of recyclable materials and is expected to improve sanitation and environmental management in the township.
The Vendor Market at Simar Market has been established to provide local vendors and small traders with an organised marketplace and facilitate orderly commercial activities while improving the management of urban public spaces.
The Academic Building of GHSS Yingkiong was subsequently inaugurated at the school premises. The new infrastructure is expected to provide improved academic facilities and a more conducive learning environment for students.
Addressing the gathering at GHSS Yingkiong, Libang recalled his student days at the institution and highlighted its contribution to the educational development of Upper Siang. He said the school has produced numerous doctors, technocrats, educationists and public leaders who have served or continue to serve the State in various capacities.
Urging students to remain focused on their studies, Libang described them as the backbone of society and future torch-bearers of the nation, State and district. He called upon them to maintain discipline, integrity and sincerity and to uphold the rich legacy of their institution.
Libang expressed satisfaction over the completion of the three projects and emphasised the need for creating durable public assets that directly address the needs of the people. He also stressed continued coordination among government departments, the district administration, elected representatives and the public to accelerate development in Yingkiong and Upper Siang.
Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang appreciated the successful implementation of the projects and called for their proper utilisation, operation and maintenance to ensure that the assets continue to benefit the public for years to come.
DDSE Duhon Tekseng informed that GHSS Yingkiong was established in 1958 and has since served as an alma mater to numerous distinguished personalities who have occupied important positions in government and public life. He noted that Libang himself is an alumnus of the institution and described the inauguration of the new academic building as a proud moment for the school community.
Tekseng called for renewed focus on quality education, discipline and academic excellence.
Welly expressed gratitude to the MLA, Deputy Commissioner, ZPM, heads of departments, public leaders, officers, officials, students and other stakeholders for their cooperation in completing the projects. He also acknowledged the contributions of departmental engineers, technical personnel, field staff and executing agencies.
The inauguration of the three projects marks an important step in the development of Yingkiong Township, with the initiatives collectively addressing solid waste management, livelihood and market infrastructure, and education. (DIPRO)
