Tawang Police leads cleanliness drive at High-Altitude Stadium

TAWANG, Aug 17: The Tawang District Police on Monday conducted a cleanliness drive at the Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Outdoor Stadium as part of its community policing and civic responsibility initiatives.

The drive was organised under the initiative of Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang following the conclusion of the Merag Lama Lodroe Gyatso Independence Cup 2026 Football Tournament on August 15. The tournament had left a considerable amount of waste and garbage across the stadium premises.

Taking the initiative to restore the cleanliness of the important public and sporting facility, the police team undertook an extensive cleaning exercise and collected a large quantity of waste from different parts of the stadium.

The drive was led by SP Tasi Darang and participated by DySP (HQ) Togum Gonggo, RO Genden Thupten, ARO T D Sermo and CHM Karsang Monpa, along with officers and personnel of the Reserve Police Line, Tawang.

The initiative aimed not only at cleaning the stadium but also at creating awareness among the public about the importance of maintaining clean, hygienic and litter-free public spaces. The District Police appealed to citizens and visitors to public places to dispose of waste responsibly and contribute to keeping the surroundings clean.

The cleanliness drive is also part of the Tawang Police's efforts to strengthen community and tourism policing by encouraging greater public participation and fostering closer police-public relations.

“Clean public spaces reflect our collective responsibility. Keeping Tawang clean is not the duty of one department alone—it requires the participation of every citizen,” the District Police said.

The District Police reiterated its commitment to working closely with the community not only in maintaining law and order but also in promoting a cleaner, safer and more welcoming Tawang. (DIPRO)
