12 NDRF-conducted two-week-long FAMEX concludes in Shi-Yomi

ITANAGAR, Aug 18: A two-week-long familiarization exercise (FAMEX) was carried out in Tato, Mechukha and Monigong subdivisions under Shi-Yomi district, involving a team of 12th Bn National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Itanagar, which concluded on Sunday last.

The event was coordinated by Vijay Mitte, DDMO Shi-Yomi District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) under constant guidance of Manjunath R, Deputy Commissioner Shi-Yomi.

ADC Mechukha Tana Yaho urged students, teachers, officers and others present during the second leg of the program at Mechukha to inculcate life-saving knowhow and basic survival tactics imparted by the NDRF team.

The ADC also called upon the participants to disseminate knowledge they gained from the programme with friends and colleagues.

During programme at Monigong, ADC Monigong Idam Bagra interacted with the team and appreciated DDMO for conducting such disaster management programme in remote Monigong subdivision, saying it will be immensely beneficial for preventing loss of precious life by reducing response time by the first responders.

The NDRF team visited all border administrative headquarters of the district viz Tato, Mechukha & Monigong as part of FAMEX to conduct School Safety & Community Disaster Awareness programme at various schools besides mock drill involving all stakeholders of the district.

It particularly targeted Govt establishments, schools, villages, Gaon Burahs, NGOs, NCC, Scouts & Guides and other officials/authorities in the district.

School Safety Programme was conducted on day one of FAMEX at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Tato with the aim of undergoing disaster preparedness, mitigation and safety measures before any natural disaster.

During two-week programme, the NDRF team showcased improvised rescue methods using locally available materials like bamboo, empty plastic bottles, sandbags, blankets, school uniforms, etc; demonstrated how to move patients / injured person by the techniques of one man trench, two men trench and piggy back carry etc; taught participants basic survival tactics; reduced response time to minimize fatality and save life.

Besides, it conducted drill on basic emergency medical first response, CPR, trauma care etc; demonstrated search & rescue of victims trapped in a collapsed building. Further, it highlighted Do’s & Don’ts on district specific disaster like earthquake, flash flood, landslide & mudslide including fire safety. (DIPRO)
