Nationwide Chaupal (Aspirational) Programme held at Namsai

Namsai, Aug 19: The Handicrafts Service Centre, Itanagar, under the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, organised a Nationwide Chaupal (Aspirational) Programme at Town Club, Namsai, to create awareness among artisans in aspirational districts.

The programme was attended by local artisans, craftspersons and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs). Officials briefed participants on various schemes and initiatives of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), including skill development, design and technology upgradation, marketing support, Artisan ID Cards and credit facilities.

The participants were encouraged to adopt innovative designs and techniques while preserving the traditional crafts and cultural heritage of the region. The role of SHGs in strengthening livelihoods and promoting sustainable income opportunities for artisans was also highlighted.

During the interaction, artisans raised issues relating to the availability of raw materials, access to finance and marketing opportunities, while officials provided guidance on registration, access to Govt schemes and the benefits available to eligible artisans.

The programme aimed at strengthening awareness and facilitating greater access to Govt support among artisans, particularly those residing in aspirational districts. (DIPRO)
