Itanagar, Aug 20: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik called upon young filmmakers, content creators and influencers to use their platforms responsibly to promote social harmony, environmental awareness, responsible citizenship and national development.
Addressing the valedictory function of TRACTION 2026 – Residency and Film Challenge at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills, Doimukh, on Thursday, the Governor said the digital age had given content creators unprecedented influence, with a video, documentary or social media post capable of reaching millions within hours.
He said the real measure of success should not be views, likes or followers, but the positive impact created in society. He urged participants to avoid sensationalism and pursue credible and meaningful storytelling that informs, educates and inspires.
“Integrity and credibility are the true foundations of lasting impact and meaningful storytelling,” the Governor said, while stressing the importance of fact verification, cultural sensitivity, informed consent and dignified representation.
Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s rich cultural and natural heritage, Parnaik said the State offered immense opportunities for storytellers, with its diverse tribal traditions, biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes. He urged the participants to document the State’s untold stories and take them to national and international audiences.
He also encouraged collaboration with RIWATCH, cultural organisations, researchers, local communities and knowledge keepers to authentically document indigenous traditions, community wisdom and the harmonious relationship between people and nature. He called for greater focus on artisans, farmers, entrepreneurs, athletes, innovators and cultural custodians, besides local products, traditional crafts, organic farming, eco-tourism and community-led conservation.
The Governor said passion and creativity could open new horizons and create opportunities for innovation and growth. He expressed confidence that the participants would emerge as responsible storytellers capable of inspiring hope, strengthening understanding and contributing to constructive change.
During the programme, Parnaik conferred awards on the two best filmmakers—Aron Pradhan of Meghalaya and Rinpi Das of Assam. Each received a trophy, citation and cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The 15-day programme, organised under the theme “Explore, Create, Move” by the Department of Mass Communication, RGU, in collaboration with the Centre for Cultural Research and Documentation (CCRD), Naharlagun, and the Department of Industries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, saw participation of 25 participants from eight Northeastern states.
