Joint operation leads to apprehension of active NSCN (IM) cadre in Tirap

ITANAGAR, Aug 23: An active cadre of the NSCN (IM) was apprehended during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in Tirap district on Sunday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces conducted the operation in the general area of New Paniduria, leading to the apprehension of Wangchan Wangsu, 31, who was identified as a self-styled Private of the NSCN (IM).

According to security sources, the operation resulted in the recovery of one pistol, one magazine and five live rounds of .32 mm ammunition from his possession.

The security forces also recovered Rs 5,450 in cash, three Aadhaar cards belonging to different individuals, one Voter ID card, a list of phone numbers and a torchlight with charger.

The apprehended individual and the recovered items were subsequently handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The operation underscored the continued coordination between the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in tackling insurgent activities and strengthening security in Tirap district and adjoining areas.
