YUPIA, Aug 24: The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls 2026 in Papum Pare district was reviewed during a meeting held at Yupia on Monday.
State’s Health & Family Welfare Secretary, and SIR 2026 Electoral Roll Observer for Papum Pare, Vivek HP, chaired the review meeting, which was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak, Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek and other stakeholders.
Emphasising the importance of transparency and public trust in the electoral process, Vivek HP said public confidence is fundamental to the credibility of elections, from preparation of electoral rolls to the conduct of polling.
He said SIR is distinct from the routine Special Summary Revision and involves extensive door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and that the electoral roll remains accurate and credible.
The exercise also seeks to identify and remove ineligible entries in accordance with electoral laws and procedures. Appreciating the efforts of BLOs, he urged BLOs and BLAs to actively participate in the claims and objections process to facilitate timely redressal of discrepancies and prevent complications at later stages.
MP Tai Tagak stressed that the SIR exercise should remain non-political and free from political interference, with the process carried out solely in the interest of preparing a genuine and credible electoral roll. He emphasised the importance of accurate data and proper verification of electoral entries, including identification of ineligible entries, in accordance with the law.
He said the integrity of the electoral roll is vital for safeguarding the democratic process and national interest.
While lauding the BLOs and officials of the Election Department for undertaking the extensive revision exercise, MLA Nabam Vivek expressed hope that the efforts of the entire election machinery would result in a comprehensive, accurate and error-free electoral roll.
Earlier, Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage gave a detailed presentation on the progress and operational aspects of SIR 2026 in the district. She informed that 11 new polling stations have been added this year to strengthen electoral accessibility and infrastructure.
She further informed that the disposal of claims and objections would continue until September 18, 2026. Members of the public having claims, objections or grievances concerning the electoral roll were urged to approach the respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) within the stipulated period.
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 22, 2026.
ERO, Itanagar Assembly Constituency, Dani Rikang, also briefed the meeting on activities undertaken under SIR 2026, including training programmes, pre-inauguration activities, public outreach, tabletop simulation exercises, establishment of special booths and the public grievance redressal mechanism.
The meeting was attended by EROs of Itanagar, Doimukh and Sagalee Assembly Constituencies, representatives of political parties, elected Zilla Parishad Members and officials of the Election Department.
