KHONSA, Aug 24: A significant milestone was achieved at Zonal General Hospital (ZGH), Khonsa, with the successful performance of its first Caesarean Section (CS) on Monday, marking a major step forward in emergency obstetric and surgical care in Tirap district.
The emergency Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) was performed on a primigravida who was nine days beyond her expected date of delivery and presented with severe oligohydramnios and suspected macrosomia.
The procedure was successfully completed at around 1 pm, resulting in the safe delivery of a healthy female baby weighing 4.2 kg. Both the mother and newborn were reported to be stable following the procedure. The patient is a resident of Huakan village in Tirap district.
The landmark procedure was performed by a team comprising Dr Charang Agnes Wanglat, Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Dr Chanwang Mongchan, ENT, who assisted during the procedure; Dr Anita Tapir and Dr Modhu Muri, Anaesthesia; and surgeon Dr T Basar, along with the Operation Theatre team.
Medical Superintendent, ZGH Khonsa, Dr Tumli Basar, described the successful procedure as an important milestone in strengthening emergency obstetric and surgical services at the hospital.
He appreciated the dedication, professional commitment and coordinated efforts of the doctors, nursing staff, OT personnel and other supporting staff involved in the procedure.
The achievement is expected to further enhance ZGH Khonsa’s capacity to provide timely and critical maternal and emergency healthcare, besides expanding access to specialised obstetric and other surgical services for people of Tirap district. (DIPRO)
