ICAR-KVK, Namsai holds Regional Seminar on Ginger

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai successfully organized a ‘Regional Seminar on Ginger’ at the KVK premises in collaboration with the Spices Board, Divisional Office, Namsai to promote advanced farming techniques among local farmers.

Pritam Chakraborty, Sr Field Officer, Spice Board India, Divisional Office, Namsai, discussed post-harvest management practices and emphasized the importance of proper cleaning, grading, and storage techniques to ensure better market value and quality retention for ginger produce, as well as the necessity of maintaining standardized packaging to meet export requirements and increase the overall competitiveness of local ginger.

Earlier, Dr Madhumita Sonowal Bora, SMS (Plant Protection), highlighted the significance of scientific ginger cultivation in the district while mentioning the major diseases and pests and their management.        

A total of 100 farmers from Khumali FPO, Gunanagar, Namsai district; Cheringke Baringke Jhumpa FPO, Tezu, Lohit district; Lohit Organic FPO, Wakro, Lohit district; and farmers from Momong and Solungtoo villages of Namsai district were distributed summer vegetable seed kits to the participating farmers to encourage crop diversification and supplement their income under the IARI component.
