DAPORIJO, Aug 26: The Upper Subansiri District Administration conducted a Civil Defence blackout mock drill at Daporijo on Tuesday to strengthen disaster preparedness, emergency response mechanisms and community participation during emergencies.
As part of the exercise, the district observed a complete blackout from 8 pm to 8:15 pm. The drill simulated air raid and bomb blast scenarios at two separate locations in Daporijo, involving evacuation, search and rescue operations, first aid, casualty management and coordinated emergency response.
Members of the public actively participated in the exercise by switching off emergency and inverter lights during the designated blackout period, demonstrating community preparedness and cooperation in emergency situations.
Personnel from various line departments, police, Fire and Emergency Services, medical teams, Yuva Aapda Mitras, NCC cadets and other stakeholders participated in the mock drill.
The exercise provided an opportunity to assess the preparedness and coordination of different agencies and review the roles and responsibilities of the Incident Response Team (IRT) during a disaster or emergency situation.
Officials said such exercises are aimed at enhancing preparedness, strengthening inter-agency coordination and ensuring an effective and timely response during emergencies.
