NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Gallery Vayu, a curatorial initiative by Vayu: Design for Living, will present Ngok Dolu (My Village), an ongoing body of work by multidisciplinary artist Jenjum Gadi, from September 10 to 30 at Gallery Vayu, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
The exhibition reflects on the landscapes and village life of Arunachal Pradesh that shaped Gadi’s childhood and explores themes of memory, place, cultural traditions and the changing relationship between people and their surroundings.
Gadi grew up in a self-sustaining village surrounded by bamboo and thatch homes, cultivated fields, forests, rivers and orchards. His experiences of architecture, agriculture, weather, craft traditions and everyday village life form the foundation of Ngok Dolu.
Working primarily with brass, Gadi transforms remembered forms and familiar objects into sculptural works that move between observation, recollection and imagination. Recurring cloud forms feature in the works as quiet witnesses to a landscape in constant change, reflecting on the connections between memory, time and place.
The exhibition does not seek to reconstruct the past but examines what people inherit from the landscapes that shape them and what remains when those landscapes undergo transformation.
Gadi’s artistic practice draws from personal histories, cultural traditions and the natural world, using familiar forms as vessels for storytelling. Following his solo debut at Bikaner House, his works have also been presented at Jodhpur Art Week and Art Mumbai.
Ngok Dolu (My Village) will be open to visitors from 11 am to 7 pm, seven days a week, from September 10 to 30 at Gallery Vayu, 14, Main Market, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
