ITANAGAR, Aug 28: The All Arunachal Pradesh Priest Welfare Association (AAPPWA) has urged individuals who have adopted religions other than the indigenous faith to stop receiving priest honorarium provided by the state government.
Addressing reporters here on Friday, AAPPWA president Tatung Tagar alleged that several such individuals were still receiving priest honorarium and termed the practice illegal and a violation of the established system.
Tagar urged those who had converted to other religions to refund the honorarium received after conversion, failing which, he warned, the association would initiate legal action.
He also appealed to the state government to ensure timely release of honorarium to priests.
The association further objected to the selection of local priests by Gaon Buras, alleging that some GBs belong to religious groups other than the indigenous faith. It suggested that the AAPPWA should be entrusted with the responsibility of verifying and approving the eligibility of local priests for receiving honorarium.
