LIKABALI, Aug 30: The Adi community residing in Likabali, Lower Siang district, celebrated the Solung festival with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour here on Saturday.
Dubbed a celebration of ‘Harvest, Harmony and Heritage’, senior public leader Gumke Riba graced the occasion as the senior-most guest and hoisted the festival flag in a resort complex here. Extending his warm greetings to the Adi community, he wished that the festival would usher in peace, harmony and brotherhood among the people, while also bringing a bumper harvest, prosperity and well-being to the community.
A key highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Solung mythology by Augusti Jamoh, which forms an important cultural and traditional foundation of the festival. The programme also featured vibrant performances of traditional Ponung dance, Taku Tabat and other cultural presentations, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Adi community.
Earlier, Tarik Nyitan spoke at length about the significance and purpose of celebrating Solung. He highlighted the festival’s deep-rooted cultural traditions and its vital role in preserving and passing on the community’s rich heritage to future generations.
The Solung festival organizers, Gagam Pertin and Sobo Tayeng expressed happiness over the enthusiastic participation of members of the Adi community, Dune-makbo and other guests at the venue.
The celebration concluded in an atmosphere of joy, cultural pride and community spirit, reflecting the enduring traditions and collective identity of the Adi community. (DIPRO)
