ITANAGAR, Aug 31: A total of 109 newly recruited Junior Engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, have begun a two-week Common Basic Induction Training Programme at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Naharlagun.
The training, scheduled from August 31 to September 11, is intended to familiarise the newly inducted engineers with government functioning, service conduct, office procedures, technical responsibilities and other aspects of public administration.
The batch comprises 92 male and 17 female Junior Engineers.
The inaugural session was attended by Chief Engineer (Training & Vigilance) John Langkam, Superintending Engineer, Sagalee Circle, Gem Dopum, SE, Capital Circle-cum-Coordination, Techi Nabo, Assistant Engineer (Planning) Tumbi Ete and Executive Engineer (Planning) Kago Sonia.
Addressing the trainees, CE Langkam advised them to utilise the training period effectively and actively participate in the sessions and other learning activities at ATI. He said entering government service would offer an experience different from academic education and urged the young engineers to remain humble, respect experience and learn from colleagues at all levels.
He also emphasised the need for continuous professional development and called upon the engineers to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity and contribute to the development of the state and the country.
The Director, ATI, stressed that the induction programme was particularly important during the probationary period and urged the trainees to make optimum use of the institute’s facilities and learning resources.
Distinguishing between a “job” and “service”, the Director said government employees have a wider responsibility towards society and must perform their duties with Sevabhav, integrity and strict adherence to rules and procedures.
The two-week programme is expected to provide the newly recruited engineers with the knowledge, professional orientation and discipline required for effective discharge of their duties and their transition into government service.
