Former President Pranab Mukherjee remembered on his death anniversary

ITANAGAR, Aug 31: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday paid tribute to former President and Bharat Ratna awardee Pranab Mukherjee on his death anniversary, remembering him as a distinguished statesman, scholar and dedicated public servant who devoted his life to the service of the nation.

“Remembering Bharat Ratna Dr Pranab Mukherjee on his punyatithi. We pay tribute to a distinguished statesman, a scholar of exceptional wisdom, and a dedicated public servant who devoted his life to the service of India,” Khandu said in a post on X.

The Chief Minister added that Mukherjee’s long public life and contribution to the country continued to be remembered with respect.

He described the former President as a leader whose wisdom and commitment to public service left a lasting mark on the nation.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also paid his tributes to Mukherjee on his death anniversary, recalling his contribution to public life and his understanding of India’s democratic institutions.

“On the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee ji, I pay my heartfelt tributes to the former President of India and one of the country’s most distinguished statesmen,” Mein said in a social media post.

"His remarkable contributions to public life, deep understanding of India’s democratic institutions, and commitment to the Nation will always be remembered," he added.

Mukherjee, who served as the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017, was conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award, in 2019.

He died on August 31, 2020, at the age of 84. (PTI)
