Itanagar, Sep 1: The Assam Rifles, in coordination with Arunachal Pradesh Police and CRPF, apprehended a suspected drug peddler and recovered 12.2 grams of suspected illicit drugs during a joint operation in Khonsa town of Tirap district on Monday, a police source said on Tuesday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the alleged trafficking and peddling of illicit substances from the Medical Colony towards the Club Colony area, the joint team established a naka along the route.
During the operation, a suspected individual proceeding towards Club Colony was intercepted and subjected to questioning and search. The individual was identified as Wangpan Lowang, a resident of Longliang village under Laju Police Station, Tirap district.
The security personnel recovered 12.2 grams of suspected illicit drugs and an Apple iPhone from his possession.
The apprehended individual, along with the recovered items, was subsequently handed over to Khonsa Police Station for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The Assam Rifles said the operation reflects its continued coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police and CRPF in efforts to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region.
The force reiterated its commitment to protecting the youth and local population from the harmful effects of narcotics and contributing to peace, security and stability in the region.
