ITANAGAR, Sep 1: Arunachal Pradesh has lost a distinguished public servant with the passing away of Sang Phuntsok, IAS (Retd), former Deputy Commissioner of Tawang and Member of the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta. He reportedly breathed his last in Delhi.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed profound sadness over the demise, remembering Phuntsok as a distinguished public servant who dedicated his life to the service of Arunachal Pradesh and its people.
Phuntsok served in several key positions in the state government during his long administrative career, including as Deputy Commissioner of Tawang and Secretary, Hydropower. He was known for his honesty, humility and calm disposition.
During his tenure as Tawang DC, he earned appreciation for his people-centric approach and efforts towards improving administration and public service delivery, particularly in the remote and strategically important district.
After retiring from the IAS, Phuntsok continued his association with public service. He was appointed as a Member of the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta and formally assumed office on August 20, 2025, at a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan, Itanagar.
Khandu recalled Phuntsok’s contribution to public service and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and all those who were touched by his life and service.
The Chief Minister prayed for peace for the departed soul and expressed hope that he would attain a fortunate rebirth.
The news of Phuntsok’s demise has evoked condolences from political leaders, serving and retired officials, civil society members and people across the state, particularly in Tawang, where he was remembered for his dedicated service and close connect with local communities.
His passing marks the end of a long career in public administration and leaves behind a legacy of integrity, humility and commitment to public service.
