Solung integral to Adi identity, says Upper Siang DC

YINGKIONG, Sep 2: Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang has underscored the importance of preserving the traditional essence and authenticity of Solung, describing the festival as an integral part of the identity and cultural heritage of the Adi community.

Addressing the Central Solung Festival Celebration 2026 at Yingkiong, Jerang said Solung reflects the rich traditions and cultural values of the Adi people, which have been carried forward through generations.

He called upon the younger generation to shoulder the responsibility of preserving and promoting these traditions so that the cultural legacy of the Adi community could be passed on to future generations in its true spirit.

The DC also extended his greetings to the Adi community on the auspicious occasion and stressed the need to maintain the traditional character of the festival amid changing times.

The celebration at Yingkiong featured a range of cultural and community activities, with enthusiastic participation from youths, children and community members.

The week-long Central Solung Festival Celebration, which began on August 27, is scheduled to conclude on September 4. It includes cultural dance and literary competitions, Miss Solung, community feast, tug-of-war, kids’ fashion show, local cuisine exhibition, Solung Ponung, football tournament and musical nights.

The festival provides an important platform for the younger generation to reconnect with their cultural roots and promotes traditional songs, dances, customs, indigenous knowledge and community values.
