DAPORIJO, Sep 3: The Tamin Welfare Society (TWS) has extended immediate cash relief assistance to five families affected by the devastating fire incident at Gandhi Market, Daporijo on August 30.
Following the incident, an action committee constituted by the society, led by chairman Jenu Tamin and joint secretary Tajam Marbom Tamin of Chetam Circle, along with other members, visited the affected families and took stock of the losses.
The fire severely affected five families — Yapi Dasi Tamin, Pucha Dasi Tamin, Vijay Dasi Tamin, Pugo Dasi Tamin and Dari Raji Tamin. According to the society, the affected families suffered extensive losses, with the total value of damaged and destroyed property estimated at around Rs 1 crore.
The society said the incident had not only destroyed household belongings and other valuable assets but had also caused a serious setback to the livelihood and financial security of the affected families.
As an immediate humanitarian measure, TWS provided cash relief to the affected families and expressed solidarity with them during the difficult period. The society also appealed to the concerned authorities to extend immediate relief, rehabilitation and compensation to the victims as per applicable government norms and disaster-relief provisions.
Meanwhile, the society urged the people of Daporijo to remain vigilant against recurring fire incidents in the township. It stressed the need for proper electrical maintenance, avoidance of overloaded sockets and unsafe electrical equipment, and caution while handling candles, lamps, incense and other open flames.
TWS called for greater public awareness and collective responsibility towards fire prevention, noting that a moment of negligence can destroy years of hard work, property and livelihoods.
The society appealed to the community to extend practical support and solidarity to the affected families so that they can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
