ITANAGAR, Sep 3: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Thursday warned of strong action against any attempt to threaten, intimidate or harm its executive members and leaders engaged in Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duty in Changlang district.
AAPSU president Meje Taku said the union members deployed for SIR-related work were discharging their responsibility in the interest of the State and its future generations. He cautioned that the union would not tolerate any untoward incident involving its members.
The warning comes amid a controversy over alleged enrolment of illegal, bogus and non-genuine voters in the Bordumsa-Diyun area. AAPSU has alleged that suspected Chakma-Hajong and other refugee entries were being pushed into the electoral rolls during the ongoing SIR exercise.
Taku asserted that AAPSU would not allow the identity and interests of the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh to be compromised. He further warned that any officer, MLA, minister or public representative found shielding or facilitating such enrolments would be held accountable.
The apex students’ body maintained that no illegal, bogus or non-genuine voter should be enrolled in the electoral rolls and urged the SIR Committee and district administration to ensure transparency and strict verification at every stage of the revision process.
AAPSU said it would continue to closely monitor the SIR exercise across the State and hold concerned authorities accountable for any lapses in the verification process.
