LIKABALI, Sep 4: A team of Galo legislators led by Minister Kento Jini on Friday visited Hime, Germe and adjoining villages in Lower Siang district to assess the prevailing situation and interact with residents amid continuing concerns following the recent Hime-Bodoti incident along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The delegation comprising Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kardo Nyigyor, MLAs Pesi Jilen and Tojir Kadu, along with representatives of the Galo Youth Organisation, Lower Siang Students’ Union, Galo Welfare Society, district administration and police, held interactions with local residents.
The team listened to the concerns and apprehensions of villagers and discussed measures to maintain peace, harmony and normalcy in the area.
The visit followed the August 10 confrontation at Hime, in which several people were injured amid renewed tensions over the longstanding land and boundary-related dispute involving Hime and Bodoti.
Minister Kento Jini termed the situation sensitive and called for restraint, dialogue and mutual understanding among all stakeholders. He stressed the need for continued engagement with local communities and other concerned parties to prevent escalation and work towards a peaceful and lasting solution.
The legislators assured the people of their continued support and said they would work in coordination with civil society organisations, the district administration and security agencies to address the concerns through dialogue and democratic mechanisms.
They also appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace and refrain from activities that could disturb public order or further aggravate tensions.
The delegation said the larger interests of the people and peaceful coexistence among communities must remain the priority, while emphasising the need for collective efforts towards a stable and lasting resolution of the Hime-Bodoti issue.
