SEPPA, Sep 10: A review meeting on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls 2026 was held at the Abotani conference hall, District Secretariat, Seppa today, with Electoral Roll Observer for East Kameng district Y W Ringu (Commissioner Finance, GoAP) chairing the meet.
Yashaswini B, DC-cum-District Election Officer East Kameng, along with EROs, AEROs, Supervisors and BLOs of the district, attended the meeting.
A presentation on the ground status of SIR was made covering all four Assembly constituencies viz 8-Bameng, 9-Chayang Tajo, 10-Seppa East and 11-Seppa West. The presentation highlighted the advanced stage of digitization and the progress achieved by the field teams.
Addressing the officials and BLOs, Ringu stressed strict adherence to the prescribed timeline and urged the teams to complete the exercise, wherever possible, around five days ahead of schedule to allow adequate time for corrections and resolution of last-minute issues before final publication. Describing SIR as an exercise aimed at ensuring the clarity, accuracy and integrity of the electoral roll, she emphasized the pivotal role of BLOs as the backbone of the revision process.
The Observer encouraged them to take pride in their responsibilities and discharge their duties with honesty, patience, resilience and a strong “rule-driven approach.”
During the interaction, the Observer also underscored the importance of healthy interpersonal relationships and coordinated teamwork in successfully completing the exercise.
An in-house review with the DEO, EROs, AEROs and Supervisors focused on time-bound disposal of complaints, closure of pending matters, proper documentation and record keeping, qualitative analysis of SIR data, mandatory proofreading and joint cross-checking by teams of two to three officers to minimize errors and omissions.
The meeting also stressed robust arrangements for final publication, effective use of technology for decentralized communication and a checklist-based monitoring mechanism covering both in-house and field-level verification.
All teams were directed to work towards the final publication deadline of 22nd September 2026 without compromising the accuracy or quality of the electoral roll.
The meeting also reviewed Form-7 deletion cases, with 303 forms generated in Bameng, 209 in Chayang Tajo, 25 in Seppa East and 29 in Seppa West, totalling 566 deletion forms across the district.
Laxmi Dodum, AC-cum-Dy DEO, East Kameng, described the SIR exercise as a “journey from anxiety to settlement” and acknowledged the significant role of the Electoral Roll Observer in course correction, maintaining the integrity of the process and providing continuous guidance.
Referring to the observations of the DEO, she said that the energy and experience of Roll Observer provided a valuable learning opportunity for all involved in the exercise. (DIPRO)
