ITANAGAR, Sep 11: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik on Friday assured a delegation of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and representatives of the Tagin community that the safety, security and welfare of people living in the Taksing border area would remain a priority.
Led by AAPSU president Meje Taku, the delegation comprising representatives of the Tagin Cultural Society (TCS), All Upper Subansiri District Students’ Union and All Tagin Youth Organisation, called on the Governor at Lok Bhavan here and apprised him of their concerns and apprehensions regarding the Taksing sector.
The delegation raised concerns over reported Chinese movements in the Taksing sector, stating that the issue had existed for several years but had become more serious since July 2026. It also highlighted difficulties faced by local residents in accessing their traditional grazing areas.
The delegation informed the Governor that the AAPSU-led team had travelled from the NEFA Club Building on August 13 and reached Taksing, where it hoisted the National Flag and AAPSU flag on August 15.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a five-point memorandum and placed several demands before the Governor, including establishment of a permanent Indian security post along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Taksing sector, continuation of a Brigade-level post and strengthening of security arrangements for the border population.
It also sought realignment of the Frontier Highway towards the actual frontier area and greater opportunities for local recruitment in the Arunachal Scouts, particularly for unemployed youth from border communities. The delegation also raised the issue of appropriate changes in the relevant Rifle Rules/Regulations.
The Governor assured the delegation that the concerns would be taken up with the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of India at the highest level. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Government of India and the Indian Armed Forces to safeguard every inch of the nation’s territory.
Parnaik said the interests and well-being of every village and citizen of Arunachal Pradesh remain paramount and assured that no individual residing in Taksing would be harmed. He emphasised that the security and development of border areas are national priorities, adding that people living in frontier regions constitute the nation’s first line of strength and resilience.
The delegation welcomed the Governor’s response and said it would continue to pursue the concerns of the border population through democratic and constitutional means.
During the interaction, the Governor also called upon AAPSU and student leaders to play a constructive role in nation-building and champion social causes that directly affect the future of the State.
He urged AAPSU to intensify awareness and community outreach against drug abuse, support efforts to prevent crimes against children under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and encourage students to complete their basic education.
The Governor further encouraged the youth of Arunachal Pradesh to acquire skills in emerging technologies, saying that the younger generation possesses immense potential to lead the State towards greater progress and contribute meaningfully to the vision of Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat.
