ITANAGAR, Sep 14: Two women from Tirap district have brought laurels to the region by participating in the Mount Shinkun West Expedition, a challenging mountaineering expedition to the 6,127-metre peak in Himachal Pradesh.
Kampo Matey, daughter of Ranmey Matey and Nyarian Matey of Laptang village, represented Tirap in the expedition and became the first NIMAS-certified mountaineer and adventurer from the district. She has completed the Advance Mountaineering Course (AMC) and Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC), besides undergoing training in white-water rafting.
Another participant from the district, Miatliam Wangsa, daughter of Tinga Wangsa and Wirian Wangsa of Thinsa village, has completed her BMC from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS).
Kampo and Miatliam became the first persons from Tirap to represent the district in an expedition of this nature. The expedition brought together 10 mountaineers from Arunachal Pradesh with support from the Department of Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Mountaineering requires courage, endurance, discipline and strong team spirit, particularly while operating in challenging and unpredictable conditions.
The achievement of the two mountaineers is expected to inspire more young people from Tirap to take up adventure sports and pursue opportunities in mountaineering.
