Guv calls for innovation-focused education at NERIST

ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has called upon the academic leadership of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, to equip students with skills and knowledge in emerging technologies, research and innovation.

The Governor, who is also President of the NERIST Society, made the call while interacting with the Deans and Heads of Departments (HoDs) of the institute at its campus on Wednesday.

Describing NERIST as a premier technical institution with a distinguished legacy, Parnaik said the institute has immense potential to contribute to the technological advancement of Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast.

He said rapid technological and global changes have created both opportunities and challenges, and stressed the need for NERIST to remain responsive to emerging technological, economic and societal requirements.

“The future belongs to those who innovate, adapt and create solutions for real-world problems,” the Governor said.

He urged the Deans and HoDs to encourage students to excel in emerging areas, particularly Artificial Intelligence, advanced technologies, research and innovation. He also called upon faculty members to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking and scientific inquiry among students to promote meaningful research and practical innovations.

The Governor said NERIST should focus on producing technologically competent, innovative and socially responsible graduates who can become entrepreneurs, researchers and leaders contributing to nation-building.

Referring to recent developments at the institute, Parnaik stressed the importance of integrity, transparency and collective responsibility among members of the NERIST fraternity. He called for a shared commitment towards strengthening the institution and enhancing its national relevance.

Reaffirming his support, the Governor assured NERIST of his full commitment and assistance in strengthening the institute as a centre of technological excellence, innovation and nation-building.

NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S and In-charge Registrar Prof Sarsing Gao were also present during the interaction.
