ITANAGAR, Sep 19: The 17th World Bamboo Day was celebrated at the Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo and Cane Technology Centre (APBCTC), Gungu/Khamir under Sadungputa circle in Papum Pare district, with a series of activities highlighting the importance of bamboo conservation, sustainable utilisation and livelihood generation.
The programme was attended by Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resource Development Agency (APBRDA) Chairman Tatar Kipa and Vice Chairman Techi Necha, besides students and other participants.
As part of the celebration, a bamboo peeling competition was organised among students of BSc Forestry, providing them an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge related to bamboo.
An archery competition was also conducted during the programme, adding a traditional and cultural dimension to the celebrations.
The programme further featured mass bamboo plantation at the nursery premises, reinforcing the importance of bamboo cultivation for environmental conservation and sustainable resource management.
The celebration highlighted the ecological, economic and cultural significance of bamboo and its potential to support rural livelihoods through handicrafts, value-added products and other bamboo-based enterprises.
The event also emphasised the need to encourage younger generations to acquire knowledge and skills related to bamboo and promote its sustainable use as a renewable natural resource.
