ITANAGAR, Sept 24: The Department of Disaster Management, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, will conduct hospital-based mock exercises in Itanagar and Naharlagun from September 25 to 28 to assess and strengthen disaster preparedness, emergency response and coordination among hospitals and response agencies.
The exercises, based on an earthquake and multi-hazard emergency scenario, will be held at Hormin Hospital and Niba Hospital on September 25, TRIHMS, Naharlagun, on September 26, and RK Mission Hospital and Heema Hospital on September 28.
The mock drills will simulate an earthquake-triggered multi-hazard emergency involving multiple casualties, fire, search and rescue, evacuation and mass-casualty management.
The NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services and Health Department will participate in the exercises under the supervision of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
The department has appealed to the general public, patients and attendants not to panic or mistake the simulated emergency situations for an actual disaster. They have been advised to follow instructions issued by hospital authorities and exercise personnel, and cooperate with the response teams.
The exercise aims to strengthen hospital and emergency response systems and improve preparedness for effective disaster management and life-saving operations during actual emergencies.
