TAWANG, Sep 27: Tawang Police on Sunday stepped up engagement with border guarding forces and local communities during a visit by Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang to frontier areas under Dudunghar circle of Lumla sub-division.
The visit to the India-Bhutan border was aimed at strengthening coordination between the district police, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local communities and promoting greater vigilance in the frontier areas.
The SP visited Warongdi beyond the Tsamtikhang Check Post at Bleteng, accompanied by SSB Inspector Ashok Kumar, SIB personnel, local Gaon Burahs, Gram Panchayat Members, Special Branch officials and personnel of Lumla Police Station.
During an interaction with community representatives and SSB personnel, various local issues were discussed. The SP facilitated dialogue between the stakeholders and assured the participants that matters requiring the intervention of the district administration would be referred to the concerned authorities.
Darang urged local residents to remain vigilant against unauthorised cross-border movement and illegal activities and stressed the importance of reporting suspicious developments and sharing information promptly with the authorities.
He also highlighted concerns relating to demographic changes in border areas and underlined the role of local communities in maintaining security and preventing unlawful activities.
The police team conducted an awareness session on provisions of the POCSO Act, NDPS Act and Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976. The session emphasised the responsibility of communities in preventing crime and safeguarding vulnerable sections of society.
The team subsequently visited Buri village, one of the first Indian villages towards the Bhutan border, and interacted with residents of the village and adjoining areas.
According to Tawang Police, such regular interactions are intended to strengthen police-public relations, improve coordination with border guarding forces and encourage greater cooperation among security agencies, local representatives and border communities.
The visit also highlighted the importance of regular engagement and mutual understanding between border communities and security forces for effective border management and a secure environment in the frontier areas. (DIPRO)
