ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik at Lok Bhavan here on Tuesday and discussed issues concerning security and emergency response in the State.
The discussions covered national security, strengthening of Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs), air connectivity and the role of the Indian Air Force (IAF) during natural calamities and medical emergencies.
The Governor commended the Eastern Air Command for its unwavering support to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly during natural disasters and medical emergencies. He said the Indian Air Force (IAF) has played an important role in reaching remote and inaccessible areas during critical situations.
Highlighting the unique geographical challenges of the State, the Governor said the IAF’s rapid response capabilities are important for dealing with floods, landslides and other emergencies, including airlifting relief materials, rescuing stranded civilians and evacuating affected persons to safer locations.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening aviation infrastructure in the border State, stating that improved ALGs and air connectivity would enhance logistics, communication and emergency response capabilities, and overall socio-economic development in the border State.
He also urged the Air Force to expand its engagement with the State’s youth through career awareness programmes, NCC activities, air displays and educational visits.
The Governor said greater exposure to the armed forces could help young people understand career opportunities and the role of the IAF in national service.
Air Marshal Walia assured the Governor of the Eastern Air Command’s continued cooperation with the State Government and reiterated the IAF’s commitment to supporting Arunachal Pradesh during disasters, medical emergencies and other critical situations.
