ITANAGAR, Sep 29: An Assam Rifles personnel was killed in an exchange of fire with suspected NSCN (K-YA) cadres at Pangsau Pass along the India-Myanmar border in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly occurred early in the morning when personnel of the 21 Assam Rifles came under fire in the Pangsau Pass area, leading to a heavy exchange of fire.
The slain soldier was identified as Havildar Jangkhokai Kuki, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Assam Rifles, in a statement, said Director General Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera and all ranks paid solemn tribute to the braveheart and conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
“The DG Assam Rifles and all ranks of Assam Rifles stand firmly with the bereaved family,” the force said.
