ITANAGAR, Oct 1: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has urged the Forest department to intensify public awareness campaigns and encourage greater community participation in conservation efforts that have sustained communities for generations.
The Governor urged this while the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of the Forest Force (HoFF), Santosh Kumar called on him at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar today.
During the meeting, they discussed measures for the conservation of the State’s rich flora and fauna, protection of its unique biodiversity, and initiatives to enhance greenery and ecological balance in urban areas.
The Governor emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh, blessed with vast forests, rich biodiversity, and vibrant indigenous traditions, has a unique responsibility towards environmental stewardship. He said that the State is demonstrating how development and environmental protection can progress together. Economic growth, infrastructure development, and improved quality of life, must be pursued in a manner that preserves and at the same time harnesses natural wealth, he said.
While advising the PCCF and the Forest department to intensify public awareness campaigns and encourage greater community participation in conservation efforts, the Governor suggested promoting messages that inspire people, particularly the youth, to take pride in preserving the State’s natural heritage. He said that by drawing strength from cultural values, and embracing sustainable development, Arunachal Pradesh can build a greener, healthier, and more resilient future for generations to come.
Kumar, who recently assumed charge as PCCF, assured the Governor of his commitment to strengthening conservation efforts across the State and enhancing its rich natural heritage. He emphasized that special focus would be given to improving green cover, protecting wildlife habitats, and promoting sustainable environmental practices through active community participation.
