ITANAGAR, Oct 6: The Shi-Yomi District Police has arrested a 36-year-old man and seized 9.816 kg of suspected cannabis from a vehicle at Kada-Silla village under Mechukha subdivision.
Police said the action followed credible information received on Monday that a person was transporting suspected narcotics from Aalo towards Mechukha in a four-wheeler bearing registration number AS06T8014.
A police team led by SI Mokhar Karlo, OC, Mechukha Police Station, intercepted the vehicle at Kada-Silla village under the supervision of Shi-Yomi SP Rishi Longdo. During a search conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate and Mechukha ADC Tana Yaho, the team recovered 9.816 kg of suspected cannabis from the boot of the vehicle, police said.
The accused, identified as Sarde Ekke, 36, a resident of Mechukha town, was arrested. A case has been registered at Mechukha Police Station vide MKA PS/Cs/No. 04/26 under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Mama Natung commended Shi-Yomi Police for the interception and recovery, saying such action was vital to strengthening the fight against drug trafficking and keeping communities safe.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and extend their cooperation in making Arunachal Pradesh free from the menace of drugs.
