YUPIA, Oct 7: Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak has announced Rs 15 lakh each from his MPLAD Fund for construction of Model Anganwadi Centres at Doimukh and Sagalee.
Tagak made the announcement during his visit to Anganwadi Centres under the Doimukh ICDS Project as part of the final leg of the Angan Milan Seva programme.
Interacting with Anganwadi workers, helpers and PRI members at the Tigdo-III Anganwadi Centre, he directed the Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner to identify suitable and encumbrance-free sites for the proposed centres.
Addressing the gathering, Tagak highlighted the significance of Angan Milan Seva, launched as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service. The nationwide initiative is being carried out across thousands of Anganwadi Centres with the core theme “Our Anganwadi, Our Responsibility.”
Highlighting the importance of Anganwadi Centres as grassroots institutions for early childhood care, nutrition, healthcare and education, he said community participation was essential for strengthening them. He called upon all stakeholders to work together to improve the functioning and infrastructure of the Anganwadi Centres.
He also stressed the need to integrate Anganwadi Centres with educational institutions under Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, for the holistic development of children during their formative years.
Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage, while reviewing the status of Anganwadi Centres in the district, highlighted infrastructure-related challenges and said that no funds had been allotted for construction of Anganwadi Centres since 2010, leaving several centres in need of maintenance and improvement. She added that land possession certificates (LPCs) for the centres would be processed on priority.
Deputy Director (ICDS) Jaya Taba briefed the gathering on activities undertaken during the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah and various schemes implemented by the Women and Child Development Department.
Doimukh CDPO Maya Murtem highlighted challenges faced by Anganwadi workers, including low honorarium and inadequate basic amenities such as toilets and drinking water at several centres.
The programme was also attended by Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resource Development Board Vice-Chairman Techi Necha, PRI members, SHG members, and officials of the Women and Child Development Department. (DIPRO)
