DAPORIJO, Oct 7: The Upper Subansiri District Congress Committee on Wednesday staged a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over issues concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The protesters raised slogans against the Election Commission and called for greater transparency and accountability in its functioning.
Addressing the media, Congress leaders alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanded that the CEC step down.
The protest in Upper Subansiri was part of the nationwide demonstrations being held by the Congress and other opposition parties over the SIR exercise.
The Election Commission has maintained that the revision process is aimed at identifying duplicate, deceased and otherwise ineligible entries in electoral rolls.
