RAGA, Oct 7: As part of “Sankalp Diwas”, the Kamle District Administration in collaboration with the Department of Sports organized an indigenous games & sports event at Yada general ground here.
The event saw the conduct of various indigenous games & sports in both male & female categories.
‘Gilli Danda’ competition: Godak Shaan and Rakhe Yajak Bal secured 1st position in male & female categories respectively; while Makcha Tekir won bamboo archery competition in male category.
In bamboo climbing, Milli Rani (male) and Bolo Tajak (female) clinched top honours; while Neir Yedi (male) and Khoda Sho (female) bagged top spots in ‘Dali Haka Hinam’.
The bamboo sticks running saw Dora Tacho win the contest in male category, as Rakhe Yajak Bal grabbed the 1st position in female section.
Gracing the event as chief guest, local MLA Rotom Tebin emphasized on the importance of indigenous sports, and called upon the youths to come forward and participate in the competition with enthusiasm.
Attending the programme, Deputy Commissioner J T Obi also urged the youths to come and participate to make indigenous sports more vibrant. He also stressed the need to encourage and promote indigenous games & sports, citing that indigenous sport has important components for preserving indigenous cultures.
ZPC Kamle Boni Tamen said that indigenous sports are getting recognized in national level, urging that they must keep alive our own indigenous sports.
Mantu Gyadi, In-charge DSO, explaining the objectives of the event, said that the government is giving equal importance to indigenous sports as other national games & sports to preserve and promote traditional games & sports.
ADC (HQs) Padi Tapa and other dignitaries also witnessed the competitions.
Later, the winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates by the chief guest. (DIPRO)
